LAYTON "RED" ST. GERMAIN (1917-2001)
Layton "Red" St. Germain was born in 1917 in Joliet, Illinois. In his early 20s he made his way to Denver via Lowry Air Force Base and shortly thereafter fell in love with Virginia LaBriola.
Red and Virginia were married in 1940 and remained so until his death sixty-one years later. Together they raised four children (Joel, Jeanne, Mary and Anne) who spawned thirteen grandchildren (David, Joel Jr., Nicole, Mark, Kristen, Nels, Monica, Margaret, Germaine, Charmaine, Matthew, Aaron and Zachary) and eleven great-grandchildren (Robbie, Andrew, Lucas, Ryan, Nathan, Jessica, Laurie, Matthew, Rachel, Layton, Caleb and Delanney) and counting.
Red was an avid golfer, outdoorsman, skier and skilled handyman and he taught his children and grandchildren many of his favorite pursuits.
Red had a zest for life that was unequaled by most. He skied late into his 70s and played golf until he was too sick to swing a club in his late 80s.
His spirit lives on through the Red's Rumble Golf Tournament, as those who remember him know there is no other place he would rather have been on a warm summer's day than playing eighteen holes.
